You know, I thought about it: The whole "you know enough" thing, saying that our American church culture has over-emphasized learning at the expense of doing. I thought about what I wrote.
I paused. I mulled. I ruminated, I reconsidered, I re-examined. I wrestled. And, you know?
I was right smack on!
Yep. Pretty awesome!
Yessir!
I mean, there are some wonderfully interesting angles to this, and I'm so very thankful for all the give-and-take on it.
But it all rather makes the point. The very suggestion that a church, or church culture, could over-emphasize knowledge -- it raises alarms for a lot of people, maybe most, in evangelicalism.
Imagine someone coming into a new church, full of new believers, and saying, "You now know enough." People today would be scandalized, even (especially?) in a church that's been around for years, just as some were scandalized by my post.
But Paul did it, in Romans 15. He told a brand new church that they knew enough. AND -- he said, keep instructing each other. Right on! a) Knowledge is good, but yes, b) you know enough. So get to doin'.
Sounds solid. Familiar, no?
"You know enough!" Thank you!
In Chad Johnson-esque fashion, I dance. I slink around the end zone, I rip off my helmet, and commence the Ickey Shuffle.
I spike this blog over the virtual goalposts.
I announce with glee that I am going to Disney World, and possibly the Epcot Center as well. I instantly put on customized "I Was Right About that One Blog Entry" t-shirts and commemorative cap, and you admire me and purchase products that I endorse, and then I go get in a fight at a nightclub.
