Rated PG.  Worth watching for anyone who remembers -- truly remembers -- life in 1994.

New Reader FAQ for Kamp Krusty

Shutterstock_30302Q:  Who are you?

A:  I'm some guy who plays accordion.  Poorly.  I live in South Florida.  I love my family.  I work in radio, where I've done everything from rock to talk-radio to Christian.  I am expert in nothing.  I am interested in everything. I am a nerd.

Q:  What are you trying to accomplish with this blog?

A:  I started it to amuse myself, and about two friends.  That's still the point.

Q:  That's it?  That's not very lofty-sounding.  Where's the leadership?

A:  Not trying to provide leadership.  That's it.  I just like writing and stuff.  I used to be a regular op-ed newspaper columnist on politics and such.   I quit doing that when I quit my talk-radio-hosting gig.  This is more fun, but only because of the commenters.

The comments are better than my posts.

Q:  So you have no big agenda?

A:  Nope.

Q:  Aren't some of your views off-putting to others?

A:  Yep.

Q:  Doesn't that bother you?

A:  Nope.

Q:  That's not very Christian.

A:  It's Christian to be bothered?

Q:  But what if someone's decides to be personally offended and doesn't talk to you anymore?

A:  That wouldn't be very Christian.

Q:  Is sarcasm "Christian"?

A:  I prefer "ironic humor", and, furthermore, yep.  Yep, it is.

Q:  Don't you want to build a big audience?

A:  I already have a job like that.  I don't need a blog for that kind of pressure. That said, I *love* the vibe where I can say something, then learn from people who read it.  I love it, love it, love it.

Q:  Do you get a lot of emails of people disagreeing with you?

A: The vast majority of emails I get are very kind, very thoughtful.  I learn a lot from them.  Most of the time, when people disagree, they just get ticked without engaging me on it.  These are usually people who are employed by churches.

Q:  Do you dislike people employed by churches or something?

A:  Hardly. I worked as a paid youth minister at two churches. My brother is a minister, and so is my dad.  But I suspect that many -- most? -- if given a new career outside the church, would actually suddenly agree with me on much.  Heck, *I* would've argued with me, when I was employed by a church.

Also:  Many pastors/leaders read this blog, and remain friends.  I actually feel for so many church staffers, because I think they are kept from truly doing what they want to do in the church.  They aren't allowed to experience what I've been able to experience since leaving paid attractional-church ministry.

Q:  Why do you say you don't "go to" church anymore?

A:  In the community we're involved in, the phrase "go to church" is completely incoherent.  It's my belief that the idea of "church" that is consonant with "attendance" is an idea that has been nothing short of devastating for our culture.  The cost has been extreme, for believers and non-believers alike.

Q:  That's offensive.

A:  I reckon.

Q:  How dare you say that on your personal blog?

A:  Mmmmmm...yep yep yep yep...brrrrring....yep yep yep...phone...brrrrring.

Q:  Why are you so immature?

A:  Now THAT is a frequently-asked question.

Your Significant Otter

nto a world of tumult:  Otters.  Holding.  Paws.  Reminding us of the humanity that we share with all of us, and the humanity we so deeply share with these otters.

We must ask*:  If otters can reach out to other otters, grasping paws, while paddling with their back paws, and moving their oily, furry bodies throuigh the water, why can't we?

Video removed from site because of loading problems.  Here's the link:  http://www.youtube.com/v/epUk3T2Kfno

* -- We must also ask:  Are both of these otters guys?

  • Because there's nothing more fun than forcing people to look at your own photo albums, here's an online version. I can't force you to look at it. I can't even force myself to think you'd want to. But here it is. Oh, the places you'll go!
