Tragi-Komedy to Ensue on Thursday
So they have all these really bright people, who've written books, made something of their lives, etc., and they're all on shapevine.com.
And it's a pretty awesome site. You should register and join and learn and have fun and video-email people and everything. Too cool. And FREE!
It will be a matter of no small amount of scholarly consternation how I wound up getting invited to the party. I'm the only one on there who hasn't actually, you know, accomplished anything.
My first "Live from Kamp Krusty" webcast thing will be Thursday at 4 ET. I'm really excited about it.
Make no mistake: It will be an unmitigated disaster. But please join us, so that you can explain, to authorities, what actually happened, as an actual participant, before the whole thing is yellow-taped off.
It will be fun! Bring your webcam, if you've got one, so I can meet you! Or not! How cool is that? We can kick it together, no matter where you are!
You are so funny. It makes me just want to hug the stuffins out of you. Oh,...wait...never mind. I forgot - no hugging.

Whaddaya mean, "pretty awesome" ?! Have you forgotten that "pretty awesome" is the enemy of "awesomely awesome"?
Since adopting the "awesomely awesome" model of behavior, I am enjoying incredible success!

I was throw into a bit of confusion because I didn't know what the word consternation meant. I do know and ironically I'm no longer confused.

I have lurked on your blog for a while. It came highly recommended by my friend Shaun Groves and it has not disappointed.
So, I loved it when I got the email about the webcast on Thursday. I can't wait!
And, the picture totally cracked me up!

Sadness sets in as I realize that I will be in a tiny little room with a group of church platers on Thursday afternoon. I'll watch for you on CNN.

Brant... how did they let you past the screening?...

The site looks interesting, but I couldn't find anything resembling an 'About' link that would let me know what the sight is all about. Exactly what is Shapevine? What's its purpose?

I'll bet you found this site by doing a search for U2.

Regarding Shapevine's purpose: I'll have Lance (one of the founders) answer that more concretely on Thursday when we do the thing.
But it's a site to let people share ideas and form relationships who are interested in thinking about the church, what God is doing right now in the world, that sort of thing.
There are a lot of great thinkers on there, as you can tell, and they'll be hosting these webinars and blogging and such. Again, it's FREE, and they send out email blasts that tell you what's coming up.
I'm planning to have guests to interview on my future webinar things, but what's REALLY cool is how the technology allows everyone in the room to be in the discussion. It has a chat feature, we can send links back and forth -- it's totally interactive in a fun way.
Alan Hirsch, (www.forgottenways.org) is one of the other founders. He and Lance are super-humble guys, very forward-thinking, and clearly have bizarre senses of humor, which explains my inclusion.

Next time, maybe you could do it outside of business hours. Not all of us can be radio personalities (or radio lack-of-personalities or whatever); many of us have to work for a living. Also, in my considered opinion, more than a few of the folks at Shapevince are real goobers. Bros and Sisses in Christ, I suppose, but goobers nonetheless. Please don't be seduced by the goobery side. Anyway, congrats, and sorry I will miss you.

First things first. I love the action shot of you on the site. Now on to more important things. Do you plan to take your Awesomely Bold Leadership skills to the 2008 National New Church Conference in April seeing as how some would say you're leading a new church? I'm thinking the participants of that conference are exactly the type of audience that would benefit from your words of wisdom. Remember, sharing is caring :)

That was fun, and pretty strange too. I've been marveling all day at the social implications of technological advance. You hear about that all the time, but the reality sunk in a bit after watching your webinar thing. Was it weird for you? It was kind of weird to me - all these people who somewhat 'know' each other (to varying degrees, or not at all) through the blogosphere all at the same location interacting in real time. I've never participated in anything like that before, so maybe it's just my inexperience...(I had my webcam, but was too scared to use it - can everyone see you, or just the moderators? Did anyone else turn on their webcams besides you and Lance?)

Sarah,
The only people using webcams are the host and guest.
[From Brant: I blew that one. Now I know better.]

Ok, that makes sense.
