Yes everyone's a leader. But only visionary leaders are leading the regular leaders. And fewer still are leading the visionary leaders. Past that, there are only a small percentage of leaders of visionary leaders who could be adequately dubbed leading leaders of visionary leaders. And then there are the elite: those who lead the leading leaders of visionary leaders, who lead the regular leaders, who lead the pitiful 29% of people who are not leaders (losers).
I have often joked that I am a born follower. No visionary delusions here. Although...now that I think of it...my job title is now "Technology Leader". I've jokingly complained to my boss that this is a meaningless title made up by someone who spends the rest of their time writing vision statements oversaturated with the word "synergy", but maybe I just don't like the "Leader" part of it...hmmm...
Leader? Me? Don't think so. My title says Vice President. I hate using that title or even saying it. The title of my choice? "Grout". But that looks bad on a business card.
"Take me to your everybody" made me stinking laugh. Now I want to make a sci-fi movie where aliens invade, ask for the leaders, and they get taken to a Congressional meeting and go crazy trying to figure out who's in charge.
No political statements implied. I just think aliens' heads exploding because of the confusing-ness of our form of government compared with their own is comedic gold.
Then again...who says the aliens have organized leadership? Maybe they're like the ants. Maybe we take them to our leader and they get confused!
Trying to compare/contrast that statement with myself, I am struck by the ambiguity. Am I a leader at work. No. in the larger church community. No. At home. Yes. In fact, leader is too weak a word for how I function at home: the dog grovels and the kids are in awe. Scratch out leader, I'm a demigod. Still, I wonder if people are really thinking of their home life when asked if they are a leader. I'd sure love to get ahold of whatever survey that stat is taken from to try and figure it out.
In any case, when the aliens from mars show up, I hope they stay far away from my kids and ask those Jupiterean football players who their leader is. It should make a great Twilight Zone episode.
Um, when you get down to it almost everyone functions as a leader in some way or another. You lead your kids, you lead your family - that covers most of the 71% right there, plus a good portion of the 29% who didn't think of it that way.
If you think of a leader who is idolized and placed on a pedestal, then there are few real leaders. But if you think about how we actually live day to day, most of us function as a leader in one way or another. It's like The Chick Voice said above - she's got VP on her business card, but that's not how she sees herself, just how she acts. Something of a minor disconnect.
Now, the real disconnect comes when the ego lifts oneself to the position of leading leader of visionary leaders, and loves it.
Because there's nothing more fun than forcing people to look at your own photo albums, here's an online version.
I can't force you to look at it. I can't even force myself to think you'd want to. But here it is.
Oh, the places you'll go!
I take up an entire percentage of that 71% btw.

Well, yes. That's why we need authentically awesome leaders who lead leaders of leaders. Thank goodness you're here.
I'll bet that significantly FEWER than 29% of that (well-known and properly attributed) survey identify themselves as Followers. Am I right?

My goodness! So many ways to explode alien heads!

Personally, I prefer "benevolent dictator". This loosely translates into "Mom".
